Bio Mal Pacheco

Mr. Pacheco graduated in 1983 with a degree in Sociology from the University of California Berkeley. Going to work for Bank of America, he was the liaison between the bank and the University of California. He received national attention when his efforts convinced the Associated Students to lift their business ban and remove Bank of America from their ‘Socially Irresponsible Business List’ over apartheid and investments in South Africa. He went on to work for BofA for almost 20 years, trading currencies and teaching currency trading for their Foreign Currency Services Division. He then consulted for various international companies including TRW, now Experian Credit Reporting, the Gap, and AAA. For the past six years, he has been an advisor for Cal Athletics at Berkeley, working with one of their spirit groups and is one of the lecturers on California Traditions and the history of the University. Religiously, Mal was planning to enter a Washington DC Catholic seminary at American University in the fall of 1986, had he not met his future wife in the lobby of his parish three weeks before his scheduled departure. He married up over 30 years ago to a woman he doesn’t deserve and has two incredible adult children.
