Sones Jarochas y canciones de Sefarad. In this unique concert created for Festival Sefardí, Laura Rebolloso y Las Flores del Valle explore the connections between son jarocho, , and the Sephardic music of Spain.
Laura Rebolloso, from Xalapa, Veracruz, is a singer, dancer and virtuoso performer on the Leona. She is an expert in the genre of son jarocho, a regional style of Mexican son and a genre that has become a focal point for arts activism in Mexico and the U.S.. Rebolloso has performed and recorded extensively, including several years during which she played in the internationally acclaimed ensemble, Son de Madera. She is a doctoral candidate at UNM. Las Flores del Valle is made up of Carol Vigil and Leila Flores-Dueñas. With Laura Rebolloso they have prepared a concert of Jarocho and Sephardic music especially for the festival!

Lamadrid, a celebrated University of New Mexico Professor Emeritus of Spanish and former director of Chicano Hispano Mexicano Studies, will present his extensive knowledge of New Mexico’s Genízaro culture at the annual membership meeting of Friends of El Camino Real Historic Trail Saturday, April 15, at Socorro Public Library.
In 2019, Lamadrid coedited the book Nación Genízara, Ethnogenesis, Place, and Identity in New Mexico with Moises Gonzales. He describes his expertise as “all the untold, forgotten stories.” The stories are basically family histories to many New Mexicans.

In this workshop, we will spend the first hour moving together in accessible and nourishing ways that connect us to our own ancestors and lineages.
